Restoration Works
The Union Debating Chamber is a Grade II* listed building and all renovation work has to comply with strict guidelines. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse, it was first opened in 1879. By the early 2000s, many of its stained-glass windows - ranging from Victorian to Art Nouveau in style - had deteriorated significantly. We are working through a multi-phase restoration programme and fundraising for our final phase, the east side of the building.
In order to keep the historic atmosphere of the Union, we also need to preserve and maintain our iconic pieces of furniture such as the debating table, despatch boxes and Goodman oak tables. Your contribution to our Restoration Fund will directly support these essential works, ensuring that this historic space is preserved for generations to come.
